Washington, DC is part of Chain's regular service area. We design and install business networks, WiFi and the fiber that links them, for offices, storefronts, restaurants and tenant spaces in shared buildings.
The District's height limit keeps most buildings relatively low and wide. That means long horizontal runs across each floor and risers shared by many tenants. Fiber keeps those long runs reliable, and a clean, labeled backbone keeps one tenant's network separate from the next.
Most DC work happens inside occupied buildings with property management. Riser access, ceiling work and after-hours scheduling usually go through the building first, and many managers ask for a certificate of insurance before work begins. Chain is licensed and insured, and we plan that paperwork into the start of the job.
Older rowhouse and masonry buildings have thick walls and few clear pathways, and historic properties can limit what is visible. We plan routes through existing chases and ceilings where we can, and place WiFi access points room by room so coverage doesn't depend on one signal pushing through brick.
Restaurants and storefronts in narrow buildings often keep the network closet in a basement or back room, far from the front of house. We run fiber or copper to where it is needed and keep registers, cameras and guest WiFi on separate networks.
In DC, Miss Utility handles locate requests, reached by dialing 811. The District requires notice at least 96 hours before digging, and no more than 10 days ahead. Utilities mark their own lines only, so private lines need their own check.
Any route that crosses a sidewalk, alley or other public space also needs a public space permit from the District Department of Transportation. Where existing conduit is available, a route can often stay out of public space, so we check for that first.
Every fiber strand gets a loss test with a light source and power meter, and copper runs are certification-tested. At handoff you get labeled enclosures and patch panels, the results and a record of what goes where, which also helps the next tenant or building engineer.
Most network jobs touch more than one system. We also run certification-tested copper cabling, install security cameras and commercial audio, video and paging, and handle service and maintenance on systems already in place. Work in occupied buildings is often scheduled outside business hours, depending on what the building allows. We set the schedule with you and the property manager before the job starts.
Usually. We check the riser for space and fire rating, then run riser-rated or plenum-rated fiber as the space requires.
