Maryland is home base for Chain, and most of our work starts here. We design and install business networks and the fiber that carries them: switches, firewalls and WiFi for the network, and single-mode or multimode fiber for the backbone between closets, floors and buildings.
Sites here range from older brick and masonry buildings to suburban office parks, warehouses and multi-building campuses. Each one changes how we plan the job. Thick masonry walls limit how far WiFi travels, so access points get placed room by room. Long warehouse floors go past Ethernet's 100-meter limit, so fiber runs out to a second wiring closet.
When a site has more than one building, fiber is usually the right link. It covers the distance and carries light instead of current, so a surge in one building doesn't travel to the next. We look at existing conduit first, then the route across the lot, and where the cable enters each building.
Near the Chesapeake Bay and the tidal rivers, moisture and salt air are part of the plan. Outdoor fiber is built for wet conduit, and enclosures and entry points need to stay sealed. Inside, we splice to indoor-rated cable within the distance the electrical code allows, then terminate in a labeled enclosure.
Maryland has two locate centers, both reached through 811. Miss Utility covers the Western Shore, and Delmarva 811 covers the Eastern Shore. Maryland law requires a locate request at least three full business days, and no more than 12, before digging starts. The person doing the digging places the ticket.
The utilities mark only their own lines. Private lines past the meter, like power to a detached building or an irrigation line, don't get marked, so we ask about them before a trench is planned. We build the locate wait into the schedule so it never holds up the rest of the job.
Every fiber strand gets a loss test with a light source and power meter, and copper runs are certification-tested. You get labeled enclosures and patch panels, the test results and a map of what goes where.
Most network jobs touch more than one system. We also run certification-tested copper cabling, install security cameras and commercial audio, video and paging, and handle service and maintenance on systems already in place. Across the state. Maryland is our home base, so it is where most of our work happens.
Yes. We document one standard for switches, labeling and WiFi settings and repeat it at each site, so any location can be serviced from the same record.
Yes. We test the cable that is there, add or extend fiber where it is needed, and cut over so the existing network stays up until the new link tests clean.
